David McElyea is a Gunnison resident, business owner, and active member of the Gunnison Valley community. Professionally, his work spans web development, technology, marketing, and helping businesses and organizations find practical ways to use emerging technologies.

David has a lifelong passion for skiing. He learned to ski at age 12 and continued skiing in Minnesota during his teenage years. After moving to Colorado in the early 1990s, he spent a couple of years living and working in Winter Park and enjoying life as a ski bum. He moved to Gunnison in 1993 to attend Western Colorado University and lived here until 1999. He returned to Gunnison in 2015 and has called the valley home ever since.

Snowsports have been an important part of David's life. He believes the experiences that come with skiing and riding go well beyond the sport itself. And they allow people to build a lifelong connection to the outdoors, an appreciation for recreation, and friendships and community formed through shared time on the mountain. David serves on the CBSF board because he wants young people throughout the Gunnison Valley to have the opportunity to develop those same connections and experiences, regardless of the barriers that might otherwise stand in their way.

Outside of work and skiing, David enjoys mountain biking, running, and taking advantage of the many outdoor opportunities that make the Gunnison Valley such a special place to live. He is also involved with other local community organizations and brings his experience in technology, communications, and organizational problem-solving to his volunteer work.
