Pat O'Neill
I’m Pat O’Neill. I have lived in CB for 38 years. I was a teacher and coach in Crested Butte for 30 of those years. I have skied for 59 years. I was a competitive ski racer out who trained Lake Placid from ages 4 to 16. Then, my parents could not afford to have me ski race anymore. Crushed! I will do ANYTHING to help Crested Butte kids, the Gunnison Valley Community, and, especially, youth skiers. “Test me test me; why don’t you arrest me!?!?!?!” Bring it on, and dunk this old skiing carcass in some icy water to help local kids! Heck, they’re Natives; I’m not! Bring the Noise!

Stevie Kremer
Born in Germany and raised in Connecticut, I fell in love with Colorado’s mountains while attending Colorado College and soon made Crested Butte my home. I now serve as the elementary school counselor at Crested Butte Community School, helping K–5 students build confidence, empathy, and kindness.
As a former world-class trail and mountain runner, I’ve competed—and won—on stages like the Marathon du Mont-Blanc and the World Mountain Running Championships. But nothing compares to seeing local kids discover the same joy and confidence through skiing and snowboarding. As a mom to a six-year-old skier, I believe every child deserves the chance to experience the magic of our mountains, no matter their circumstances.

I'm a preacher, actor, carpenter, parent, spouse. I've lived in the Valley for the better part of 30 years. The lesser part of those years was spent in South Dakota. The older I get, the less i know. I've worked with youth for thirty years, in youth groups, on work trips, and in theatre. Sports are a great way for kids to connect with one another and with adult mentors. Snow sports are also just fun, and who doesn't like having fun?

Growing up in Crested Butte, I was on skis by 2 years old. Never an uber-athlete like my classmates, I grew up with a lot of mixed feelings about getting up there, and didn't fully appreciate it until I moved away and came back. After 25 years off the slopes, I blew my wife and kids' minds when I strapped back in and took right off. It really is like riding a bike. Now both my kids are straight lining runs that I never touched, and never will. They're the little shredders I never was because I knew that a love for the mountain will make a CB childhood even more magical. And the Snowsports Foundation has been there for the both of them, every single year; they wouldn't be up there without it. So show your support for an amazing organization; for me it's worth the plunge.

As a native Coloradan, I was always searching for the “dream job” of allowing me to live, work, and recreate in the mountains of Colorado. After an extended period of living and working in the Midwest, serving my penance, my aspirational goal of living in the mountains came to fruition when I landed a position at Western in July 1998. With twenty-seven (27) years of service, I currently serve as the Dean of Students (aka Dean of Stoke) at the University. I am an avid mountain biker and skier, a self-avowed endurance and adrenaline junkie, supported in my life journey by my wife Shelly, daughter Lily (23 years old), son Jack (19 years old), and two beloved pets, Bruno and Oreo.
Getting youth on snow for skiing and snowboarding offers much more than just a thrilling day out—it’s an investment in their physical and mental well-being. In a world increasingly dominated by screens, the magic of snow-covered mountains remains an enchanting doorway to nature for young children. Teaching kids to ski or snowboard is not merely an athletic endeavor; it’s a journey into the wonder of the outdoors, the thrill of mastering new skills, and the comfort of a supportive community.

I grew up in Minneapolis—land of great looking, proud people. I conquered Western State from 1994–1997, all while slinging pizzas at Mario’s Pizza & Pasta. Life came full circle in 2010 when I returned to Gunnison with my amazing wife, Kerry, to raise our two incredible daughters. We always wanted to give them the unique opportunity to experience everything this Valley had to offer in a young person's development. Kerry and I then bought Mario’s and later opened The Dive, with the goal of giving back to the community. With our businesses, we focus on providing that opportunity to many kids in the Gunnison Valley.
This valley has given our family so much—from adventure and friendship to lessons you can’t learn anywhere else. We want every kid here to have that same chance—to grow up surrounded by people who care, opportunities to thrive, and memories that make them proud to call this valley home.
So yeah, I’ll take the icy plunge if it helps more kids get to experience the magic of the mountains. Then sign me up! Stop by Mario’s or The Dive, grab a pint, share a story, and say what’s up. SKOL Vikes!

I have been involved in law enforcement for nearly 30 years, beginning as a police cadet and rising through the ranks of the Olympia, Washington Police Department to the position of Deputy Chief of Police. In 2025, I was honored to be appointed Chief of Police for the Gunnison Police Department.
In 1994, I spent a year at Western Colorado University (then Western State College). During that time, I deepened a love for mountain sports, something that has stayed with me ever since. I am an avid competitive mountain biker, fly fisherman, and outdoor mountain enthusiast. Much of that passion began right here in Gunnison when I was a young person. Being outside and active is where I’m happiest.
I’ve been fortunate to have the resources and support to pursue outdoor adventures from a young age. But I know not every young person has that same opportunity. That’s why I’m passionate about helping others, especially youth, develop a connection to the outdoors in this incredible place we call home. Unlike traditional team sports like football or basketball, mountain sports can be enjoyed for a lifetime, creating connection and opportunities for a full life, in the mountains and otherwise. Creating opportunities for young people to engage in these activities is not only life-changing for them, it’s deeply meaningful for me as well.

Diego Plata
Hola! I'm Diego Plata, Mayor of Gunnison, and I’m thrilled to support the kids of the Gunnison Valley in getting onto the snow. Growing up in Venezuela, winter was a completely foreign concept to me. With great fortune, I’ve been skiing for 19 years as an (almost) adult. Helping our youth get outdoors and embrace winter is a passion of mine—and if watching the mayor of Gunnison freeze his tush off helps inspire others to give, then it’s all worth it!

Anna Fenerty
My name is Anna Fenerty. I am a child of Crested Butte, a poet, a politician, and a lover of winter. Ski culture isn't always accessible to locals. We work hard to live up here and sometimes that makes having free time or the savings to really enjoy winter recreation out of reach. It took me a long time to feel like the mountain was my home too. I admire what the Snowsports Foundation does to make sure the kids of this valley know the unfettered joy of sliding on the snow.

Anthony Burton
My name is Anthony Burton. My family and I have been living in the valley for nearly 22 years. I’m originally from Karlsruhe, Germany where I was born and raised - never would have guessed it right?? My last name used to be Münch (no, it’s not pronounced Munch! Come see me for proper pronunciation). I’ve been fortunate to have been in Law Enforcement for nearly 20 years and still have to pinch myself that I was lucky enough to end up here. Crested Butte reminds me of home. Having a beautiful daughter who grew up here, I know how important it is to help the kids in the Valley. Even though I’ve never been involved with snow sports or other outdoor activities, I still realize that having fun in the snow is awesome and really important. So here it goes…..Please ….Pretty Please have me take a plunge in the coldest water we can find, in one of the coldest places (at times) in Colorado. Take a look at my picture and say to yourself, ”Yeah, this is definitely someone who needs an ice-cold dunk”. Plus, it helps the awesome kids in the Valley who deserve these opportunities. Peace love and hair grease playas.
